Knowledge Management

The Knowledge Management Unit (KMU) of the UNDP Regional Centre for Latin America and the Caribbean, supports the implementation of the knowledge management strategy of the UNDP in the region through its services of systematization, exchange, adaptation and transfer of practical knowledge on development issues.

Through these processes experiences can be identified, compared and converted into useful knowledge products for other countries and development partners. The Knowledge Management Unit provides technical assistance and advice to country offices, UNDP regional thematic clusters, agencies of the United Nations and other development groups in Latin America and the Caribbean to design and implement these experiences and initiatives, strengthening South-South cooperation and promoting the development of the region.

What is knowledge management?

Knowledge management is defined as the set of strategies, processes and actions that facilitate the greater use of tangible and intangible knowledge to act more effectively and achieve a greater impact.

KMU in action

Since 2002, the KMU has developed or provided methodological support to the mapping of over 759 development initiatives and documentation of more than 150 of them. From the same year, the KMU has accompanied or assisted the organization and development of 14 knowledge fairs, which captured more than 472 initiatives and 911 letters of intent to transfer knowledge.

At the same time, through the Regional Knowledge Sharing for Development project, 12 experiences were systematized in 15 countries of the region with the aim of transferring their knowledge to the region and the world. Currently, the KMU, disseminates these products and promotes knowledge transfer activities.
