This section provides answers on frequently asked questions regarding the services offered by the Regional Centre. What Country Offices work with the Regional Centre LAC?Argentina, Barbados, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay, and Venezuela. On the other hand, the Centre is also in connection with the Regional Centre Office in Port of Spain, which provides additional support to countries in the Caribbean, and the Knowledge Management Unit in Bogota.
2. What are the main functions of the Regional Center?The Regional Center have the following functions: 1.) Provide to UNDP Country Offices an easy and effective access to knowledge through consultancies in thematic areas and cross cutting fields (Democratic Governance, Energy & Environment, Poverty Reduction and MDG, Crisis Prevention and Recovery, HIV/AIDS, Knowledge Management, Gender, and Capacity Development) as specified in the Strategic Plan. 2.) Promote capacity building at regional level and set of practical architectures that meet the demands of other services such as work planning and implementation of corporate standards in the country offices.
3. What utilities offer the Regional Centre to Country Offices?The Regional Center provides utilities such as a knowledge management platform, tools for different benefits, corporate training, professional networking, identification of experts and references, and exchange of experience and best practices at a regional and global level.
4. What are the thematic areas in which the Regional Centre work?Democratic Governance, Energy and Environment, Poverty Reduction and MDG, Crisis Prevention and Recovery, and Knowledge Management as main themes, and also HIV/AIDS, Gender and Capacity Developmenet as cross cutting fields.
5. What happened to the Panama SURF?Advisory services in the former Panama SURF and the Regional Program Services are now part of the activities in the Regional Centre as a way to achieve better synergies and a greater impact on the work of the thematic areas. In summary, the Regional Centre will continue to provide services for the benefit of country offices in the region.
6. Is the Regional Centre connected with the work carried out by various units at UNDP HQ?Yes. To us it is very important as it allows us to contribute and also learn from a stack of best practices developed at headquarters, other Regional Centres, and Country Offices around the world.
